Before the current Covid-19 lockdown we were able to complete the Great Southern rail trail rides. So now we have completed each leg and return section which is approx. 150 Kms. The last 3 rides we have completed comprise of 2 sections of the Great Southern and ride from Kilcunda to San Remo and return. It's good to see a few more riders joining in and a few more electric bikes which make the uphill stretches a bit easier to handle.
Great Southern Rail Trail - Toora to Port Welshpool.
Great ride to the lovely costal town of Port Welshpool where we enjoyed some lovely fish and chips at the Pier Port Hotel. We followed this up with a ride out to the long jetty (very impressive restoration), and a look around the fishing port and town. Hard ride back with very strong head winds all the way back to Toora. Why did it seem we were going uphill on the way there and on the way back ?
Apart from the wind it was a most enjoyable ride.
Great Southern Rail Trail - Koonwarra to Leongatha.
Few more takers for this ride, with a nice trip to Leongatha, where we had brunch at the Shady Oak Cafe. That completed all the segments of the Great Southern Rail Trail.
Kilcunda to San Remo
Big turnup for this ride. Very enjoyable trip with brunch in San Remo.
Some very steep hills for this segment and a bit of advantage to the guys who had the electric bikes. Enjoyable day had by all.
We are looking forward to when restrictions are lifted, so we can plan our next ride.
Stay safe everybody.
